With our inversion ending and the temperatures rising again, Anchorage went from cold to thaw in one short week. Just over a week ago we were seeing as low as -30 in parts of Anchorage. Today in town, the high was rumored to have been 52 above.

By the end of daylight today my street was underwater and my neighbor, Brooks, was being interviewed by all the news channels. Following are images of his yard underwater and various parts of Chester Creek flowing across Arctic instead of draining properly. Ice and debris buildup in the culvert the culprit?

The quality of the color of the sunset was that of a summer sunset.

Fortunately, Brooks caught on to the danger during his lunch break and was able to move everything to higher ground. I'm not sure that our other neighbors, however, were as lucky.

  1. Nathaniel, the next time this happens, we need to do some silly photos in the packrafts. Maybe bust out a few fishing poles for sport.
